RADIOACTIVE
Live & Loud
Temasek Polytechnic's (TP) campus radio station, RadioActive, started in 2003 after the construction of CMM's physical studio, MediaBiz Studio. It is one of only two polytechnic campus radio stations in Singapore!
Formerly known as MediaBiz Radio, the radio station came about as CMM recognises the importance and relevance of radio in the media industry. While other traditional media have slowly been replaced by the advancements of technology and the internet, radio continues to stand and continues to be relevant. As compared to when RadioActive first started, it has now become more visible on social media.
Over the years, the station has held events with external partners like organising hair styling sessions in celebration of the launch of ‘Thor Ragnarok’ as well as bringing in beloved artistes to meet their fans like Danish singer-songwriter Christopher and local artistes like Nathan Hartono.
Students who dedicate their time to be part of RadioActive will learn all about running a radio station from social media marketing and editing to even event organisation, while learning how to present themselves to diverse audiences - all skills which are relevant in the working world.
Mrs Felicia Nah, one of the teachers-in-charge of RadioActive, shared that "each radio presenter will gain a lot of confidence in the one year they are on air. They will get the chance to work with external parties and develop professionalism." She hopes RadioActive will continue for future generations with the same equipment and software despite the financial challenges it may bring. She shared that "they are necessary for the professional sound we want."
You can listen to us on the TP Oei App or at https://radioactive.tp.edu.sg/ once you're connected to the TP network!

STORIES & CO.
For youths, by youths
Temasek Polytechnic's (TP) campus news portal, Stories & Co., started many years ago as a means for CMM students in the journalism track to apply their skills in print and publication. Back then, it was a printed product and published twice a year.
In October 2020, it rebranded and became what students now know and love as Stories & Co., a fully digital interest group led by Ms. Long Li Yann, and her editorial and social media team. Their content is driven by their tagline, ‘For youths, by youths’.
Stories & Co. not only publishes articles to be posted on TP’s website each month, they manage a social media account (@storiesco.tp) as well. Hence, Stories & Co. serves both as a creative outlet for passionate journalism students and a multimedia platform for students to try new things. Students will also gain invaluable skills like project management, interpersonal communication, and balancing between creative and organisation needs.
The campus news portal has covered events and interviewed top stars such as Nathan Hartono and Ferlyn G for their movie ‘When Ghost Meets Zombie’. The journalists had multiple opportunities to meet experts across different industries and people from all walks of life. They also cover important topics relatable to youths like mental health and student life.
Ms Long hopes for Stories & co. to continue growing its audience and brand awareness, aspiring to eventually provide branded content for paying advertisers. She also looks forward to have their own website so that they are able to have the creative liberty to design the website and help Stories & Co. grow as a media platform.
